A New Effect - Friday Finds!

Back at Kim Klassen's Friday Finds today...this week I found and practiced a new technique...a coloring book techqniue...

These photos are from Jackson's Mill, the childhood home of Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson...

This cabin on the property is that of my 5th great-grandfather, Henry McWhorter...

This was part of the lesson from Linda Sattgast's Art of Blending...using filters, masks, and blendings.

Can you tell I think this new found trick is a ton of fun?

Blending Anyone?

I've been taking a class by Linda Sattgast of Digital Scrapper.  While I have learned so much from my guru, Kim Klassen...I was interested in seeing what other things I could learn from another source.  It's been eight weeks (and STILL not done) and it has been a wonderful learning process.

I learned how to make a texture by combining color and other textures...FUN!

Our homework was to create a texture and then add it to a photo...

This is the texture I made using a pale yellow-green base, then added three textures:  one of Styrofoam, one of distressed wood, and one of metal in various blend modes.

This is the original photo...not remarkable... (This is a veterans' chapel at our local oldest, active cemetery...lots of history here!)

But then some edits and desaturation...and then add the texture I created...

MAGIC!!!  (Kinda Gothic...remember Dark Shadows?)

Such fun!  And I had to create a folder of textures that I have created...so far I have a grand total of one!

More Hydrangeas and Texture Tuesday

Another Texture Tuesday rolls around...

I wanted to post two images that are similar but have different looks due to the processing and the texture(s) chosen...

This first image is done with two textures:  Kim Klassen's roidlove and a grungy texture called All Hell Breaks Loose from Shadowhouse Creations.  This processing and texture gives it a very grungy and gritty look, but also gives it a look of an old photograph damaged by age and exposure to the elements.

This same image has been processed much paler, with much more of a light, airy look with a painterly texture again from Shadowhouse Creations.

I've adored all the classes I've taken from Kim and will continue to take.  She is so generous and I will never be able to measure all I have learned from her...and how much I will learn from her in the future.

I started another class on blending and textures by Linda Sattgast to get an additional perspective.

Here's a photo I did in the first week of her class...using one of the textures she provided.  The focus of the lesson was having a white/light background and putting a texture over it, using a blend mode of Darken (not one I would normally have thought to use).

To be honest, I'm a class junkie.  I'm taking four right now at one time...and I am always tempted to take more...but I hold myself back.  Can anyone relate?

But I love learning...and sharing it with you all, as well.  Thanks for indulging me...
